Smoke-Free Kirkwood
As of January 2, 2010 Kirkwood joins the ranks of a growing number of localities outlawing tobacco smoking in public places. I do understand that there is a health risk to children and those who would prefer not to be exposed to 2nd hand smoke. It is well documented there that the exposure to smoking; be it direct or 2nd hand is harmful to one's health but with technology today I believe that those that wish to smoke should have that right.
The argument that serve staff at a restaurant are exposed unnecessarily is like saying that a police officer is unaware of risks in their job. Yes, employees and patrons do have the right NOT to be subjected to smoking but where is the right of smokers to sociallize with like freinds at a local establishment without being persicuted. Kirkwood, Missouri's law is so strict that it does not even allow any kind of outdoor accomidations if a business should so choose.
Will it be far behind that drinking more than one drink with dinner will be against the law?
Only time will tell.
