On November 2nd 2010 Kirkwood School District voter will again be faced with bond issues that will either extend our taxes or increase them if both bond issues are approved. The school boards is requesting a total of $48.3 million dollars for renovations, construction and improvements which could cost homeowners an additional 4.5 cents for each $100 of assessed valuation.
I have included the exact wording that will be used on the Nov 2nd ballot. If one or the other bond issue is passed Kirkwood School district homeowners would see no difference on their property tax but would pay the debt service for a longer time. If both bond issues are passed the adjusted debt service levy is estimated to increase 4.5 cents (from $0.365 to $0.41) for each $100 of assessed valuation. It is estimated the increase would cost the owner of a $250,000 home an additional $21.38 ayear next year.
What do you think about this subject? Does the School District need an indoor aquatic center? during this downturn in the economy, why are we being asked for more? Is the City of Kirkwood and the School District taxing it's residents right out of the area? What is your opinion?
